Washers....

So July 4th, we went to Ricky and Christy's for a BBQ. After quite a few beers, we started playing washers, a game kin to horseshoes, but with metal washers. Here is a video of Bill, Ricky, Ryan and Taylor playing.

Cub Scout Camp

This was Tai's first Cub Scout camp experience and he had a blast! Cam was able to go and spend time in the Kiddie Corral. They both can't wait to go next year, too!

Signs of Spring

We've had a few nice, warm days here in Virginia Beach, but today takes the cake! It's been rainy and miserable for over a week. Today the sun is shining, the temperature hovers around 70 and there's not a cloud in the sky.

Before moving to the Beach in 2000, I don't think I ever came across an Azalea. Now I associate their blooms with spring! This is the prettiest one in my yard. It's covered with blooms!





I'm not sure what this bush is. The flower looks and smells like a lilac,
but I don't see many lilacs down here. But I guess if it looks like a lilac
and smells like a lilac, maybe it IS a lilac!






I have let Parsley mostly take over my herb garden because the Black Swallowtail Butterfly (Virginia's State Insect!) larvae eat parsley. The first year I planted the garden, I got so upset when the caterpillars started eating the parsley down to the ground. But when the kids started finding their cocoons and we watched the butterflies hatch, I decided to let them eat it all! I need to find a mesh butterfly thingy so we don't have to use a huge bucket for the cocoons this year.





And this is the veg garden. I need to get some organic compost to fill it in, since my compost bin hasn't made much 'black gold' yet :(. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with that...although today when I turned it, there were a ton of worms in it....that's good, right!? Anyway, I will be planting tomatoes (hoping for some BIG yummy ones this year!) squash, zucchini, pumpkins, peas, string beans, and gourds. We'll see if the bugs win this year!

Well, here goes

I started to write a blog months ago, but apparently I forgot and never finished it. I think I couldn't figure out the picture thingy. Oh well...maybe I will some day.
I've turned into a blog reader. I read random blogs, and I have a few subscriptions to blogs of people I don't know IRL. I'm not a great writer, but I'm going to try and blog myself more often, if only to get it out of my head. Heh.
